Welcome to the Northern Middlesex Turtle Initiative (NMTI), a groundbreaking, mildly questionable effort to better understand the mobility, safety, and emotional well-being of turtles across our region.

Building on recent community feedback (“we like turtles”), this project explores how turtles navigate roadways, public spaces, and existential challenges in an increasingly fast-paced human world. Through data collection, public engagement, and extremely serious analysis, we aim to identify strategies to improve turtle crossings, reduce awkward human-turtle encounters, and ensure every turtle has access to safe, dignified basking opportunities.

Your input will help shape policies, infrastructure investments, and potentially tiny crosswalk signals designed specifically for turtles.
